Cllr. Richard Cornelius is the new Leader of the Barnet Conservative Group following its internal election.
He promised that he would strive to deliver better services for less money to Barnet residents and that he would work to keep all Group Members on board with changes.
Richard, who has been a Member of Barnet Council for 5 years, is currently Cabinet Member for Planning, Housing and Regeneration.
“I would like to thank the Conservative Group for voting me in to be their Leader”, said Richard. “Such a position is a huge accolade but it is also a huge responsibility. I will be working to ensure that all members of the Group have an input into the direction the Council is taking.”
The election means that Cllr. Richard Cornelius will be the majority Conservative Group’s nominee for Council Leader at the Special Council Meeting this Wednesday (15th June). If that nomination is agreed, Cllr. Cornelius will become Leader of the Council.
Cllr. Cornelius added: “Barnet Council has to become ever more efficient and keep Council Tax down for residents in these difficult times. The Conservative Group will work together to achieve that.”
Barnet Conservatives praise Council’s new Housing Policy, and back Government in making new tenancies more flexible.
