Cllr. Daniel Thomas elected Deputy Leader by the majority Conservative Group.
Elected in 2006, Cllr. Thomas, who is Cabinet Member for Resources, pledged to use his experience balancing the books and improving service delivery to support the Leader in his role and keeping members on side.
Cllr. Thomas, a manager of a Leading Mutual Building Society, pledged to continue and enhance the input of non-executive members into the Budget setting process and continue the Council’s drive for efficiency while resisting needless bureaucracy.
“I am very pleased to be elected as Deputy and would like to thank Group Members for their support. But I would also like to thank them for their support in freezing Council Tax and balancing the books last year, and I pledge to involve as many Members as possible in improving services and keeping the Tax down in what are very challenging times ahead.”
The election of Cllr. Thomas as Deputy means that Council Leader Cllr. Richard Cornelius will name him as Deputy Leader of the Council, in accordance with the Law and Council Constitution.
“I will work to support Richard as Leader and all Members of the Group, ensuring we steer Barnet carefully though these challenging economic times”, Cllr. Thomas added.
