12 July 2011 - Welcome for Housing Policy

Barnet Conservatives praise Council’s new Housing Policy, and back Government in making new tenancies more flexible.

Cllr. Rowan Turner

The Conservative Business Item at Council tonight explained how Barnet’s new Housing Allocations Scheme will reward people who work and contribute to life in the Borough, and ensure those in need get housed.

The Motion, moved by Cllr. Rowan Turner, also praised the Coalition Government’s efforts to make new tenancies more flexible to help ensure Social Housing is provided for those that really need it.

“Social Housing is should be there for those that need it,” said Clr. Turner. “Barnet’s new policy will ensure the needy, and those that contribute to Barnet and the brave men and women who have served in the Armed Forces, are prioritised. It puts an end to the cruel, misleading and unfair waiting list.”

Cllr. Tom Davey

Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr. Tom Davey, who seconded the Motion, added: “We also welcome the Government’s plans to ensure that it is the needy that are given Social Housing, and to stop, in future, the wealthy like Union Barons on £100,000 a year living in homes meant for the poor and deserving.”
